Charles “Chuck” Paul Dorenkemper, 73

Charles “Chuck” Paul Dorenkemper, age 73 of Waterville, passed away at his home surrounded by his family in the early morning of Friday, June 16, 2023.

Chuck was born in St. Paul on April 23, 1950 to parents Paul and Lucille (Danford) Dorenkemper.  After graduating from Preston High School, Chuck was married to Kathy Arends, and he went to work for Great Plains Supply.  He was transferred to Easton, MN as a manager in 1970.  In 1974 he moved to Waterville and eventually purchased the lumber yard from Great Plains in 1986.  He and his sons ran the business until 2012 when Chuck retired and his sons took over.  He was a member at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Waterville, and enjoyed gardening, talking politics, and watching old western television shows.  He was active in sports and his love for sports continued throughout his life.  He was especially proud of his children and grandchildren. He followed all local sports teams and loved to follow his favorite professional teams. Two of his life’s wishes were to see the Vikings win a Super Bowl, and to own a Generac.

Chuck is survived by wife, Kathy of Waterville; sons Scott (Jennifer) Dorenkemper and Chad Dorenkemper of Waterville; grandchildren Kylie, Kallen, and Sage Dorenkemper; brothers Stephen (Sherry) Dorenkemper of Brownsdale, Jerome (Becky) Dorenkemper of Preston; sister Susan Dorenkemper of Clifton, CO; brother-in-law, Steve (Diane) Arends of Preston; sister-in-law Elaine Arends of Dover; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.  He was preceded in death by both of his parents, and his maternal and paternal grandparents.

A gathering for friends and family will be hosted by the Dorenkemper family at The Village in Waterville from 1 until 3 p.m. on Thursday, June 22, 2023.  Dennis-Steffel-Omtvedt Funeral and Cremation Service in Waterville is assisting the family with Chuck’s arrangements.
