Edith Carol (Seha) Njus

Edith Carol (Seha) Njus died on the morning of December 7, 2023, in Marietta, Georgia. She was born to Clarence and Elizabeth Seha on May 12, 1939. She grew up on the farm outside of Elysian and graduated from the Waterville High School class of 1957. Edith and Richard (Dick) Wetzel married in 1957 and together they raised two children, Ed and Sarah. They later divorced. Edith lived with rheumatoid arthritis since she was a young woman. The family moved to Texas in the early 70’s.  Edith lived in Texas until recently, when she moved to Marietta, Georgia to be near her grandson and his family and her son-in-law. She married David Njus in 1980 and together, they spent many wonderful years until his death in 2019.

Edith relocated many times in her life and often said that she could make any place a home. She enjoyed doing cross-stitch. Edith was a member of several Lutheran churches and engaged in extensive volunteer work related to her Christian faith, including Adopt a Family and Stephen’s Ministry. Edith visited and hosted family and friends from Minnesota and elsewhere throughout her life. She filled those she loved with stories she held dear to her heart. It was important to her that the past be treasured.

Edith’s disability progressed over the years, and she eventually lost her ability to walk. She kept her independence as much as possible through all the challenges presented to her. She had some wonderful caregivers throughout the stages of her life and illness. Despite her own physical limitations, she never wavered in investing herself in family and showing steadfast care and friendship to others.

Edith is survived by her loving grandson, Nicholas “Nick” Bimmerle, his family, Jennifer “Jenn” and their three children, Benjamin “Ben”, Maxwell “Max” and Reese, and by her son-in-law, John Burgin, his son, John, Jr. and his family, Jamey, their daughter Jadyn, and his son, Jordan. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Joan Seha of Edina, MN and Annemarie Schmidt-Seha of Germany and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Edith was preceeded in death by David Njus, both of her children, her daughter, Sarah Marie Burgin (1960-2008) and her son, Edward Louis Wetzel, (1958-2022). She was also predeceased by two infant siblings, brothers Marlan, Robert “Bob” and Clark Seha and sister Mary Seha, and nephews Daniel “Danny” Seha and Thomas “Tom” Seha.

May this strong woman finally be free of earthly pain and suffering and be remembered for all the love she gave to others. She would be honored to have you watch a sunrise or some birds or, even better, if you would keep your family stories rich and abundant as the years go by.

No services are planned currently. A gathering may be held in the spring in Elysian.
