Eight Lady Bucs athletes advance to Sections
The WEM girls track and field team put together a very solid performance in the Sub-Section 6 Meet held Thursday, June 3 at Janesville.
The host school won the seven team event with 133 points. There was a log jam between the next four teams. River Valley placed second (123), Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial/Nicollet placed third (120), WEM fourth (116), and St. Clair/Immanuel Lutheran fifth (111). Rounding out the teams were St. James Area in sixth (44), and Mankato Loyola/Cleveland in seventh (37).
The top four place winners in individual events and the top two relays advance to the Section 2A Track and Field Meet which will be held Saturday, June 12 at Mankato West High School.
WEM will have eight athletes competing at Sections, led by senior Toryn Richards who continues her outstanding season by advancing in four events. Richards has not been defeated in any event all season long. She won the high jump clearing a school record height of 5-feet, 4 1/4-inches. She also won the pole vault (10-feet) and the 200-meter dash (26.96).
Richards scored 32.5 team points which tied JWP junior Lauren Dimler for the most points scored by an individual in the meet.
