Memorial Day Ceremonies set for Monday, May 29

Elysian, Kilkenny, Morristown, and Waterville have scheduled Memorial Day Ceremonies for Monday, May 29.

Elysian Ceremony

The Elysian Ceremony will start with stops at Greenland Cemetery (7 a.m.), German Lake Cemetery (7:20 a.m.), St. Peter (Bell) Cemetery (7:55 a.m.). Cannonville Cemetery (8:20 a.m.), and the Waterville Veterans Memorial (8:45 a.m.). Due to road construction, the Memorial Day Program in Elysian will be held at Sunset Park starting at 9:30 a.m.

Waterville Ceremony

The Waterville Ceremony will be hosted at the Memorial Park on the corner of E. Hoosac St. and S. 3rd Street starting at 8 a.m. If there is rain, The Village in Waterville will be the site of the event.

This year, the remembrance ceremony in Waterville will bring special recognition and honor to local veterans who have passed away since last year’s Memorial Day. They include: Donald Poehler (US Navy), Robert Jacobson (Marines), Charles Smith (US Army), Glen Morris (US Army), Earl Tarter (US Army), Bruce Long (US Navy), David Morsching (US Air Force), Donald Swift (US Army), Daniel Schroeder (US Navy), James Frazier (US Air Force), and Brian Maki (US Navy).

The Waterville ceremony will include an invocation from Pastor Gene Witte, music by The Fathers Daughters, a reading by Claire and Natalie Elness, and the remembrance ceremony will be conducted by Staff Sergeant William Gemmill. The ceremony will end with the Elysian American Legion Post 311 Color Guard presenting colors and presenting a 21-gun salute.

Memorial Day Mass

A mass in memory of our deceased veterans and family members will be celebrated at Calvary Cemetery of Waterville at 9 a.m. Monday. In case of inclement weather, the mass will be moved to Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Please join in this special celebration honoring the deceased. Bring your own lawn chair.

Kilkenny Ceremony

The Kilkenny American Legion and Auxiliary will lead services at Sabre Lake (9 a.m.), Trebon (10 a.m.), and Calvary (11 a.m.), followed by a potluck at noon at the Kilkenny Township Hall.

Morristown Ceremony

The Morristown Memorial Day program will begin with rolls and coffee at the Morristown Legion at 9:30 a.m. Lineup for the parade will take place at 10:30 a.m. on the south side of the Legion. The parade to the cemetery will be at 10:45 a.m. followed by the program at the cemetery at 11 a.m. A lunch will follow at the Legion following the service.

Chuck Larsen will be the Master of Ceremonies and the address of the day will be presented by Colonel Judge Advocate John Brossart of the National Guard. Dr. Eugene Chase, Jr., Ben Meschke, Jordan Green, and Lindy Caldwell also have parts in the ceremony.
