Play Blue Earth Saturday for 13-60 League Tournament Championship Indians advance to Regions for sixth straight year
The Waterville Indians amateur baseball team won a pair of games in the 13-60 League Playoffs which propelled them into their sixth straight Region Tournament.
The Indians defeated Waseca, 9-4 Saturday, July 20 and Minnesota Lake 10-3 Sunday, July 21 to advance to the 13-60 League Championship game Saturday, July 27 at 2 p.m. in Waterville. Their opponent will be Blue Earth, who defeated Wells, 11-10, and Eagle Lake, 12-7.
These two teams met for the 13-60 League Championship in 2023 and the Pirates edged the Indians, 7-6.
Both teams have secured a spot in the Region 6C Tournament, which will begin Saturday, Aug. 3 at Gaylord. The first weekend of play is in Gaylord and the second weekend will be played in Arlington.
The path to their Region 6C berth started with the win over Waseca.
Dalton Grose started on the mound and limited the Braves to four runs on seven hits. He struck out 10 and walked only one.
Luke Sellner picked up the save by pitching a scoreless ninth inning.
Three straight singles and an error turned into two runs for Waseca in the sixth inning.
The Indians scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on a two-run double by Sellner and a run scoring sacrifice fly by Ben Boran.
Waterville tacked on six more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, building a 9-4 lead.
