Trnka receives Distinguished Service Award
Many times assistant coaches in high school go unnoticed.
They may coach the junior varsity and might have minimal contact with the varsity programs.
In the case of WEM Assistant Volleyball Coach Ken Trnka, he is a very important part of a program which has been among the best in Class A for the better part of the past decade.
The Minnesota State Coaches Association has decided that the recognition of these pivotal assistant coaches should be recognized and an award has been created for these special coaches.
The Assistant Coaches Distinguished Service award recognizes assistant coaches who have coached for 20 or more years and have had a major impact on a program or a sport.
Trnka, who has been an assistant at WEM for the past 11 years and has 27 years of coaching experience, received this award Saturday, Oct. 12 during the MNHSCA Annual Banquet.
“Ken is a phenomenal coach,” WEM head coach Crystal Lamont said. “I tell my players and fans we are fortunate to have a college level coach as an assistant coach for our high school team. He has helped cultivate success at every program he has assisted at.”
