Waterville Fisheries staff win state awards
The Waterville Area Fisheries Office staff has been recognized with a couple of awards for excellence.
The Minnesota Commissioner’s Awards provide an opportunity to honor and celebrate the exceptional accomplishments of DNR employees across all disciplines and all areas of the state.
Winning the Team Award were the Waterville Area Fisheries Office, State Fish Hatchery, and Waterville Research Unit Staff Brandon Eder, Tyler Fellows, Tanya Hankins, Nicholas Heseltine, Dale Logsdon, Nancy Morris, Peter Muggli, Andrew Scholten, Steve Shroyer, and Sky Wigen.
In 2023 the DNR Waterville Area Fisheries Office staff, Waterville State Fish Hatchery staff, and the Waterville Research Unit staff (Waterville Fisheries Team) collaborated to conduct their important operational work and to highlight the resource conservation story.
The Waterville Fisheries Team completed its complex work in a compressed spring, including a northern pike egg take, the startup of a new walleye egg take, and winterkill response.
The team also hosted a widely successful open house as part of the 2023 Governor’s Fishing Opener, hosted Get Out MORE visits by Governor Walz, led innovative outreach methods such as Fisheries Information Sharing network (FISHn), published a newsletter issued in five languages, and conducted community engagement/ involvement through countless media stories.
