WEM/JWP girls win Grizzly Pie Invitational

The WEM/JWP girls cross country team showed Thursday, Sept. 26 they have a great chance to improve on their finish in the Gopher Conference after defeating four conference teams in the Grizzly Pie Invitational held at Prairie Ridge Golf Course in Janesville.

The Grizzlies not only defeated the conference teams but they also defeated Blue Earth Area to win the nine-team event.

WEM/JWP finished with 43 points to easily win the invite. Blue Earth Area placed second with 74 points. They were followed by Randolph (80), NRHEG (87), Medford (105), United South Central/Alden-Conger (116). Blooming Prairie, Maple River, and Martin County West/Butterfield-Odin also had runners compete but did not field a complete team of five runners.

Freshman Makenzie Westphal and senior Onikia Herme each had top 10 individual performances. Westphal placed third in 22:06 and Herme ran a personal-best time of 23:36 to place eighth overall.
