TCU School Board chooses superintendent
Tri-City United and Waterville-Elysian-Morristown school boards faced off for the trophy that is a new superintendent when both districts chose the same candidate to lead their districts on Monday.
Both boards selected Kevin Babcock, a high school principal from Medford, as their top pick after a second round of interviews on Monday.
On Tuesday morning, Babcock chose TCU, according to a news release from Board Chair Marsha Franek. WEM then offered their position to Ryan Jensen, who holds the position of Grades 6-12 Principal in Walker-Hackensack-Akeley. Jensen was one of the six finalists that TCU interviewed last week.
“Kevin has shown our board that he meets and exceeds the hiring criteria established by our board and stakeholders. As the new leader of TCU Public Schools, Kevin will be able to build on the past work and successes that TCU is known for. We are excited for this next chapter of student achievements to begin,” said Franek.
During their deliberations, TCU board members said they liked Babcock and their second pick Jeff Wilson, an Elementary Principal from Brooklyn Center. However, after discussing, all board members agreed that Babcock should lead the district.
