TCU superintendent announces resignation

The Tri-City United School District is about to embark on another search for a superintendent.

This comes on the heels of an official announcement at a special school board meeting Monday, September 27, that Superintendent Lonnie Seifert will retire at the end of his two-year contract.

As standard practice, TCU board chair Marsha Franek read the list of employment endings and sought a motion to approve the names listed. This month, Seifert was the only one on the list.

Seifert’s retirement was approved unanimously 5-0 by the board, with Josh Beulke and Trevor Houn being absent from the meeting.

Seifert began working for the district as superintendent after an extensive search was conducted to replace then superintendent, Teri Preisler, who also left TCU for retirement.

He began on July 1, 2020. He had previously been the superintendent of the Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop Public Schools.

Seifert himself did not have anything to say to the board during the meeting about his decision or plans for the future.

His last day of employment with the school district will be June 30, 2022.

The school board has begun preparations for the search for the district’s third superintendent since the district’s inception in 2012.

At their next official meeting, they will determine which company will be used to help conduct the search and eventual hire.

Franek said that the goal is to have a new superintendent announced around the end of January 2022.
