Tigers down Titans at Sub Section Quarterfinals

The Titan Boy Basketball Team was knocked out of the first bracket of the Section 2AA playoff brackets by the Belle Plaine Tigers on Tuesday, March 8.

The Tigers wasted no time putting points on the board, thanks to E. Gerres, Jack Kruger and Ryan Retser who amassed 14 points within the game’s first couple of minutes.

It was a full five minutes into the game before TCU’s Fakourou Tandia gave the Titans some points by sinking a three-point shot.

The Titan’s varsity coach Kyle Johnson said his boys did their best, but struggled to execute their game plan to control the game.

“Offensively, we wanted to slow the pace and get the ball inside for higher percentage shots. BP played a 2-3 zone exclusively and we settled for outside shots. Unfortunately, we missed opportunities to get the ball inside, or we didn't finish when we did,” he said. “We settled for open jumpers, which were good looks, but just didn't go in.”

Johnson referred to the other two losses against Belle Plaine (December 14, 35-61, and January 28 55-61) and the stats to see the Tigers had not shot well as a whole against TCU, so he instructed the team to start in zone.
