Trcka is Minnnesota VFW’s Teacher of the Year
She earned the local honor, then the district honor.
Now, Christine Trcka holds the state honor.
Trcka is an educator at Most Holy Redeemer Catholic School (MHRS) in Montgomery, has been named the Minnesota VFW’s 2022 Middle School Teacher of the Year for her dedication to promoting civic responsibility, flag etiquette, and patriotism in the classroom.
“I was so surprised! They introduced everyone at the annual banquet here in town, and then they announced that I had won the state award,” Trcka shared. “While it’s a thrill to be acknowledged for my work, I’m humbled by the honor. It’s all just part of my job. A teacher’s purpose is to raise good citizens, good people, who are contributing members of society. That’s always the goal.”
Trcka, who was nominated for the honor by Montgomery VFW Post 5340, has been an educator for 21 years. For the last 11 years, she's taught at her alma mater, MHRS. Prior to this, she taught at Divine Mercy Catholic School in Faribault and at Montgomery-Lonsdale High School.
During her time at MHRS, Trcka helped organize the school’s first class trip to Washington, D.C., with the help of her former colleague, Dawn Biren.
