Standoff with sheriff ends with arrest

A Le Sueur County man faces charges after a standoff Saturday, Aug. 11 in Tyrone Township.

Bryant Holder, 32, is in custody in Le Sueur County Jail on charges of domestic assault, terroristic threats and assault in the second degree with a dangerous weapon, all felony charges.

According to a press release from Le Sueur County Sheriff Brett Mason, a woman called authorities around 6 a.m. Saturday saying she had been assaulted with a hammer and strangled by her boyfriend.  She also said the man had poured gasoline inside the residence and was threatening to burn the house down with him and others inside, including another adult male and female and the victim’s two minor children.

The victim reported that she was able to get herself and her children out of the house and was driving herself to the hospital in Le Sueur.

Deputies responded to the rural residence and were able to make contact with Holder, who refused to exit the residence and threatened to harm/kill anyone who came to the residence and continued to threaten to burn the house down.

Mason stated that ultimately the River Valley Regional Tactical Response Team responded to the location and negotiators were able to talk Bryant Holder into coming out of the residence at around 11:30, after which he was taken into custody.

Assisting the Sheriff’s Office was the Le Sueur Police Department, Le Sueur Fire Department, Ridgeview Ambulance Service and the Tactical Team and Gold Cross Ambulance.
