Glendon Flicek, 94

Glendon Peter Flicek, 94, of Montgomery, died on Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2018, at Mala Strana Health Care in New Prague. 

 

Visitation will be held on Monday, Aug. 20, 2018. from 1 to 4 p.m. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 4 p.m. Father Victor Valencia will be officiating. Interment will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Montgomery. Military honors will be provided by the Montgomery Area Veterans Honor Guard. Memorials are preferred to the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, please visit someone in a nursing home or assisted living.

Glen was born October 3, 1923, in New Prague to Joseph J. and Emily (Novotny) Flicek. He graduated from New Prague High School in 1941 and The College of St. Thomas with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1950. Glen served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946. 

 

He was united in marriage to Margaret Mary Wacholtz in Minneapolis on August 23, 1947. He owned and operated Glenn Flicek Insurance Agency in Montgomery from 1950 to 1994. 

 

Glen was a past Commander and member of The American Legion Post #79 and VFW Post 5340. He was past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council 1573, past Sextant of Calvary Cemetery in Montgomery, and past President of the Montgomery Lions. 

 

He was a member of Montgomery Veterans Honor Guard, Holy Redeemer Church Choir, Co-founder of Montgomery Amateur Town Baseball, founder of the Montgomery Golf Club, and WCCO Good Neighbor.  

 

He and Margaret were Kolacky Day Grand Marshal’s in 1992. He was also a “Sleep Soldier Boy Sleep” soloist at military funerals, and loved to sing “The Irish Blessing.” Glen was also an avid hunter and fisherman, sports fan, and referee/umpire critic.

 

Glen is survived by children, Stephen (Bonnie) Flicek, David (Camille) Flicek, Mary (Michael) Hartung, Barbara (Robert) Rotter, Diane (Scott) Barriball,  Rebecca (Robert) Foley, Peter (Connie) Flicek, Joseph (Melissa) Flicek, and Amy (Kirk) Sampson; grandchildren, Sarah (Kevin) Flicek, Jodie Flicek, Anne Flicek, Bradley Flicek, Luke Flicek, Stacia Flicek, Ryan (Jacqui) Hartung, Kyle (Kristin) Hartung, Abbey (Victor) Arredondo, Timothy (Hannah) Hartung, Jennifer (Jason) Houn, Jeffrey (Eve) Rotter, John (Marisa) Rotter, Jane (TJ) Fischer, Tracy Barriball, Jay Barriball, Michaela (David) Grundman, Alexandra Foley, Mitchell (Nicole) Foley, Thomas Flicek, Amanda Flicek, Michael Flicek, Emily Flicek, Kevin Sampson, Katelyn Sampson, Kalli Sampson, Kate Flicek, and Maggie Flicek; and 21 great-grandchildren.

 

Glen is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Margaret in 2010; son, Kevin Flicek in 1988; brothers, Robert Flicek and Norbert Flicek.
