Muskies, Irish share top spot in DRS

After a busy Memorial Day weekend, the New Market Muskies and St. Patrick Irish are tied at the top of the DRS standings, both with 7-1 records.

The Muskies upped their win total with wins over Webster and arch-rival Elko, while St. Patrick defeated Lonsdale and St. Benedict before taking their first loss at the hands of Veseli.

Two games were rained out Monday afternoon, Shakopee at New Prague and Montgomery at St. Benedict. Makeup dates have not been announced.

Wednesday, May 23 Express 10, Bulldogs 5 Elko spotted Union Hill a 4- 0 lead, but tied the game with four runs in the fourth on their way to a 10-5 win over the Bulldogs at Union Hill. Grant Gunderson got the win for Elko. No batting information was available. For Union Hill, Bryan Lindner had four hits and Eric Bisek had two hits, including a homer, and three RBIs. Matt Beckius also had two hits and Dusty Steinhoff also homered. Derek Masberg started for the Bulldogs, with three pitchers coming on in relief. Andrew Weiers was tagged with the loss.

Saints 8, Orioles 6 The St. Benedict Saints rallied to defeat the New Prague Orioles 8-6. Tanner Oakes pitched six innings of two-hit relief to earn the victory. Oakes, Andrew Huss, Zachary Bakko, and Mitchell Martin had two hits each for the Saints while Paul Hentges hit a big two-run double. The Orioles had multi-hit games from Austin Bachman, James Fuerness, and Dan Novak.

Mallards 7, Sox 4 Webster traveled to Montgomery Wednesday and took a 7-4 loss at the hands of the host Mallards. Robbie Marshall started for the Mallards, going eight strong innings and giving up two earned runs. Trevor Smisek picked up the save pitching the ninth. Jeremy Wieland pitched all eight innings for Webster, giving up four earned runs. Brent Cheney had an outstanding day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a home run and a double for Webster. Jarod Opsahl had two hits. Tom Flicek went 3-for-4 with a double and four runs scored for the Mallards. Mike Flicek had two hits and an RBI for the Mallards. Tyler Bednar and Aaron Dwyer had two RBIs each for the Mallards.

Thursday, May 24 Irish 6, Aces 2 St. Patrick jumped to an early 3-0 lead and went on to defeat Lonsdale 6-2 in Lonsdale. Josh Simon pitched seven innings, allowing five hits and two runs while striking out six. Zach Seurer got the save, pitching two hitless innings. Derek Isaacson had three hits, including a double, and Matt Ambroz and Will Walsh both had two hits. Seth Ambroz added a home run. Lonsdale had doubles from Cole Pint, Ryan Thompson and Greg Johnson. Johnson pitched nine innings and took the loss for the Aces.

Fri May 25 Mudcats 12, Warriors 4 Prior Lake defeated Veseli 12-4 Friday evening in Veseli. The Mudcats’ Nolan Rein had four hits and Jonny Houston and Ben Morrison had one each. Veseli led 4-1 going into the seventh inning before Prior Lake’s bats woke up. Skylar Pumper took the win for the Mudcats in relief of Morrison. Veseli had three hits from Cody Shimota and two each from John Solheid and Corey Friedges. Ben Doerr started for Veseli, with Nathan Simon taking the loss in relief.

Sun May 27 Express 17, Aces 4 Elko scored six runs in both the first and third innings on their way to a 17-4 win over Lonsdale at Elko Sunday. TJ Evanson had three hits and four RBIs for the Express and Dylan Thomas had two hits and two RBIs. Both of them homered. Mitch Frederick, Andre Hanson and Ash Larsen and Ryan Bastyr each had two hits as well. Glenn Parker started and got the win, with Nick Bently pitching one inning of relief. Lonsdale had two hits from Jordan Yetzer and Justin Johnson and Cole Pint had two RBIs. Cole Pint started and took the loss, with Isaac Pint pitching four innings of relief.

Irish 5, Saints 0 Phillip Garcia pitched seven innings and allowed just three hits as St. Patrick defeated St. Benedict 5-0 at St. Patrick Sunday. Garcia struck out six batters. Nick Friedges and Bill Dunker pitched in relief. Seth Ambroz had three hits and Matt Ambroz and Kyle Sticha each had two hits for the Irish, with Matt Ambroz having a home run and three RBIs. Mitchell Martin, Cortez Johnson and Paul Hentges each had a hit for the Saints. Matthias Duevel started and took the loss, with Hentges and Cole Minnick pitching in relief.

Muskies 13, Sox 0 Rylie Ahern pitched five innings and allowed just three hits while striking out nine, and Kyle Bergstrom pitched two innings of relief as New Market shut out Webster 13-0 Sunday in Webster. Daniel Phyle went 4-for-4 and scored three runs, while Scott Lyden, Tyler Bergstrom, Joe McKibben and Ahern had two hits each. Nate Nielsen had two of Webter’s three hits, with Jared Tucker getting the other. Jared Opsahl took the loss on the mound.

Bulldogs 8, Coyotes 0 Union Hill’s Eric Bisek went 2-for-3 with two home runs and four RBIs and the Bulldogs shut out Shakopee 8-0 Sunday. Conrad Masberg and Bryan Lindner both had two hits for Union Hill. Daniel Feneis pitched six innings, allowing two hits and striking out 11. Derek Masberg pitched two innings of relief and Conrad Masberg pitched one. Lance Buchtel, Andy Lazzari and Henry Henk each had hits for the Coyotes. Chris Isensee started and took the loss.

Mallards 6, Mudcats 5 Montgomery edged Prior Lake 6-5 Sunday in Prior Lake. Montgomery’s Jake McCabe went 4-for-5 with a triple and three RBIs. Pat Lloyd had two hits for the Mallards and Eric Iverson had two RBIs. Ted Christian got the win in relief of Dusty Beckius. Prior Lake’s Jonny Houston had three hits. Justin Hackett took the loss in relief of Lucas Pumper.

Orioles 5, Lakers 2 New Prague defeated Faribault 5-2 behind a strong pitching performance by Nathan Sprouls. Sprouls pitched seven innings and struck out seven Laker batters. Aaron Kes, Austin Bachman, Jacob Mader and Jake Klein all had RBIs for the Orioles. Zack Clark had two hits and a stolen base, Klein and Kes also had two hits a piece. Zack Dubanoski scored three times for the Orioles and also hit a double. For Faribault, Matt Lane, Derek Ritter, Mike Carpentier all had hits. Lane took the loss for Faribault and Zach Sirek got the save for the Orioles.

Monday, May 28 Warriors 10, Irish 2 Veseli banged out 14 hits and took a 10-2 win over St. Patrick Monday at St. Patrick. Cody Shimota had four hits, including a triple and had two RBIs. Mike Bartusek added three hits and Nate Novak and Nathan Simon had two each. The Warriors’ Matt Perkinson pitched a complete game, scattering nine hits. Jordan Goracke, Matt Ambroz and Jack Friedges each had two hits for the Irish. Zach Seurer took the loss.

Aces 3, Sox 1 Ryan Thompson allowed just two hits and one unearned run in seven innings as Lonsdale defeated Webster 3-1 Monday. Thompson struck out nine batters. Phil Tisdel pitched two hitless innings of relief. Justin Johnson went 4-for-4 for the Aces and Thompson and Tisdel added two hits each. Brooks Prochaska and Jake Ekness had hits for the Sox. Jeremy Wieland pitched a complete game in taking the loss. He gave up 12 hits and struck out six.

Muskies 10, Express 3 New Market defeated Elko 10-3. Brett Herber homered for the Muskies and Nate Rost took the win on the mound.
