Muskies win 2, reclaim lead in DRS

New Market defeated Prior Lake and Lonsdale to take over first place in the Dakota- Rice-Scott League last week. The Muskies have a 9-1 record and hold a one-game lead over second place St. Patrick.

It was a light week for the DRS, with several teams competing in weekend tournaments and other games rained out.

Wednesday, June 6 Irish 6, Express 3 A four-run sixth inning propelled the St. Patrick Irish to a 6-3 win over Elko Wednesday, June 6. Seth Ambroz had two hits, including a home run; Will Walsh had two hits, including a double and three RBIs and Mathew Pexa also had two hits for St. Patrick. Philip Garcia went seven innings and got the win, allowing five hits and striking out six. Zach Seurer and Josh Simon pitched in relief, with Simon getting a save. Elko’s Kyle Kalina had two hits and Kyle Kraska had a two-run double. Nick Bentley started and took the loss.

Mallards 5, Orioles 2 Mike Flicek’s two-run double gave Montgomery a 2-1 lead in the fifth inning and the Mallards went on to a 5-2 win over the Orioles. Eric Iverson hit a two-run homer in the eighth and also had a sacrifice fly. Pat Lloyd tripled for the Mallards. Ted Christian pitched for Montgomery, allowing one earned run in eight innings, with Owen Wilson earning a save. James Fuerniss started for the Orioles, going six innings giving up two runs on two hits. Zack Clark, Dan Novak and Fuerniss each had two hits for New Prague, with Clark and Fuerniss both getting triples and Novak a double.

Muskies 6, Mudcats 5 Nate Rost pitched seven innings, allowing one earned run and striking out seven, and Derek Bergstrom pitched five innings of relief, allowing just three hits and getting the win in a 6-5 extra inning win for New Market over Prior Lake. Jonny Houston took the loss for the Mudcats. He, along with BJ Benz and Cole Bjorge, had two hits each for Prior Lake. The Muskies were led by Tyler Bergstrom’s four hits. Nate Rost and Joe McKibben had three each and Kyle Henkemeyer had two.

Lakers 10, Saints 8 Faribault came from behind to defeat St. Benedict 10-8 in extra innings in a game played at Lonsdale. No details were available.

Coyotes 16, Bulldogs 4 A big 13-run fourth inning proved decisive as Shakopee defeated Union Hill 16-4. The Coyotes had three hits each from Alec Pauly and Logan Becker and two hits from Zack Hoffman, Nicholas Warren, Lance Buchtel and Henry Henk. Becker had three RBIs and Pauly scored three runs. Jesse Nystrom had a complete game win, going seven innings and allowing four hits and four runs. Union Hill’s Luke Zweber started and took the loss.

Warriors 6, Sox 1 Veseli jumped to an early 2- 0 lead and defeated Webster 6-1. Nate Novak had three hits, including two doubles, and drove in two runs for the Warriors, and John Solheid also had three hits. Matt Perkinson threw a three-hitter, striking out six and allowing just one run. Nick Hanson drove in the only Sox run, with Brett Hoffman scoring on the play. John Barten took the loss on the mound.

Friday, June 8 Saints 18, Aces 8 The St. Benedict Saints defeated the Lonsdale Aces 18-8 in eight innings on Friday in Lonsdale. The Saints exploded for nine runs in the third inning to give themselves a big lead. Lonsdale chipped away and made the game 11-8 before St. Benedict scored the final seven runs of the contest. Mitchell Martin had four hits including a home run and six RBIs. Trey Kocher had three hits. Andrew Huss and Nick Heitkamp each had two hits and three RBIs. Cole Minnick got the win. Kocher earned the nine-out save. Lonsdale was led offensively by Ryan Thompson with three hits. Thomas Hoppert had two hits for the Aces including a double. Cole Pint tripled for the Aces.

Sunday, June 10 Mudcats 11, Warriors 1 Prior Lake defeated Veseli 11-1 Sunday in Prior Lake. Topher Rose got the win on the mound, while Brian Schmitz took the loss. Jonny Houston had three hits, including a home run, and four RBIs and Alex Wattermann had two hits for the Mudcats. Matt Perkinson drove in Logan Reger for the only Warrior run. Reger, Cody Shimota and Corey Friedges had two hits each for Veseli.

Lakers 6, Mallards 5 Adam Kline had three hits and the game-winning RBIs as Faribault came back from a 5-0 deficit to defeat Montgomery 6-5. No details were available.

Express 8, Saints 2 Elko defeated St. Benedict 8-2 at St. Benedict Sunday. No details were available.

Muskies 11, Aces 6 New Market jumped to a 10-1 lead before holding off the Lonsdale Aces 11-6. The Muskies had 12 hits. Kyle Bergstrom had two hits, including a home run, and two RBIs. Nick Rost, Joe McKibben and Parker Holmstrom also had two hits for the Muskies. Riley Ahern started and went five innings for the win, with Brett Herber and Derek Bergstrom pitching in relief. Thomas Hoppert had four hits and two RBIs for Lonsdale, with Cole Pint, Daniel Turner and Brad Davis getting two hits each. Phil Tisdel started and took the loss.
