Nancy Dorshak, 85

Nancy Dorshak, age 85, of Montgomery, passed away peacefully with her loving family at her side on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at her home.  Nancy was born on October 3, 1938, in New Prague, to Ronald A. and Angeline (Meskal) Novotny.  She attended Most Holy Redeemer Catholic School, graduated as the salutatorian from Montgomery High School, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology from the College of St. Scholastica.  She married Ronald Leo Dorshak on September 17, 1960, at Most Holy Redeemer, and they moved to Peru, IL for a number of years, where Nancy worked as a medical technologist at one of the largest hospitals in Peru.  The couple moved back to Montgomery in 1972 where they lovingly raised their five children.  Nancy also owned and operated two successful, local businesses.

 Nancy had a commitment to community service.  She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, an active member of the Montgomery Community Club, instrumental in developing summer recreation programs, helped with Early Childhood Screening, and was dedicated to the American Red Cross Blood Donation Program.  She belonged to “The Sisterhood of the Bag Ladies”, a group that made mats for those in need. This activity brought great joy to Nancy and she was proud to have made over 200 of these mats!  Humble at heart, Nancy was a woman of many talents and interests.  She was an accomplished flutist and possessed a beautiful singing voice. She loved gardening, crossword puzzles, playing Bridge, painting and drawing.  Nancy’s creative spirit expressed itself, most notably, in the vast collection of angels that graced her home.   Specially collected seashells from winters in Florida became angels.  Her artistry can be found in many homes in the community today.  She left a legacy of creativity that has already been passed down to the next generations.  

 Nancy is survived by her children, Deborah (Douglas) Enrooth of New Prague, Ron (Julie) Dorshak of New Prague, Mark Dorshak of St. Paul, Michael (Sandra) Dorshak of Savage, Catherine (Scott) Fischer of Kilkenny; grandchildren, Brittany (Grant) Parsons, Joshua Dorshak, Ronald Enrooth, Rebecca Enrooth, Brandon Dorshak, Kayla Dorshak, & Michael Fischer; sisters, Yvonne (Dave) Swanson of Rice Lake, WI, Carole Hiniker of Hastings, Kathleen (Greg) Malecha of Inver Grove Heights, Peggy (Bob) Heuer of Plymouth.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Ronald L. Dorshak on August 3, 2017; her parents.
