New Prague edges St. Patrick in DRS baseball

In a battle between two of the top teams in the DRS Amateur Baseball League, the New Prague Orioles edged St. Patrick, 4-3, in 11 innings Sunday, May 30.

This was one of 11 DRS games played Sunday and Monday.

Eric Wagner and Dan Shekta had two hits and each drove in a run during the 2nd inning to help the Orioles take a three run lead.

Nathan Sprouls started for New Prague and was dominant striking out nine batters, and giving up one earned run. Adam Schmitz pitched the final two innings for the win.

Kal Brohmer drove in Joe Weiers in the 7th for the first Irish run. The Irish would score two more in the each of the next two innings to tie the game. It remained that way until the 11th when Spencer Kajer hit a single over 2nd to drive in James Fuerniss. Blake Woodson took the loss.

Other games Sunday included Union Hill knocking off Elko, 14-11, New Market downing Veseli 14-1, Prior Lake remaining with an 8-2 win over Shakopee, and Montgomery defeating St. Benedict 4-1.

In the Union Hill win, Jacob Becker hit a grand slam and had six RBI and Conrad Masberg hit a three run homer for the Bulldogs. Dusty Stienhoff earned the win.

Corbin Cross had three hits and Cole Bjerge and Ben Kelsey had two hits each for Prior Lake, improving their record to 5-1.

Johnny Krocak pitched a complete game in the Mallards win over St. Benedict. Cole Pint ripped a pair of home runs and Ryan Iverson also hit a long ball.

The league played five games on Memorial Day. In a Class B match-up, Elko defeated New Market, 8-1. St. Patrick shut out Lonsdale, 2-0. Union Hill defeated Webster in seven innings, 13-2. Montgomery knocked off Veseli, 5-3. St. Benedict came from behind to down New Prague, 12-11.

The Orioles got off to a fast start before blowing a big lead in the latter part of the game against St. Benedict. Paddy Timmer and Simon Solheid both hit home runs to give them an early 8 to 1 lead. Solheid and Timmer were the leading hitters with three hits each.

Spencer Kajer, Eric Wagner and Dan Shekta each chipped in two hits to lead the O’s. St. Benedict mounted their comeback using mostly walks and hit batters. Jeremy Heitkamp had three hits for the Saints and picked up the win in relief. Adam Schmitz took the loss for the Orioles.

In Union Hill’s win over Webster, Masberg, Nate Lee, and Jack Kruetzian each had two hits. Max Drexl had two hits and scored a run for Webster.

League standings have Faribault on top with a 6-0 record. Prior Lake is 6-1, Union Hill 4-1, and New Prague and St. Patrick are tied for fourth with a 4-3 records. Other teams include Lonsdale (3-4), Montgomery (3.5), St. Benedict (3-5), Webster (1-5), Veseli (0-7) , and Shakopee (0-7).
