Fire crews from Belle Plaine and Montgomery assist New Prague Fire Department on a pole/shed fire south of Union Hill on Jan. 23.

The New Prague Fire Department says it received a call for a pole shed on fire at approximately 3:50 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 23. Upon arrival on scene at 29394 201st Ave., approximately one mile south of Union Hill, the department said the shed was fully engulfed.

According to owner Brandon Parker, the building was a shed that incorporated a shop, and part of of the floor was cemented for the shop and the other half having a dirt floor for cold storage. Parker said he lost a couple vehicles, four snowmobiles, a couple four wheelers, a motorcycle, a front end loader and all of his tools.

The entire structure and its content were a total loss. The fire did not spread to nearby buildings or house, which Parker says he is thankful for. He estimated that his loss would be about $350,000, which included the building.

The Minnesota State Fire Marshal will be out on Wednesday, Jan. 24 to assess the fire and see if it can determine a cause.
Assisting New Prague Fire Department at the scene were Montgomery and Belle Plaine fire departments for personnel and water.
