Steve A. Simon, age 78

Steve A. Simon, age 78, of Montgomery, died unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, November 14, 2024. Steve was born on October 1, 1946, in Sioux City, IA, to Andrew and Clara (James) Simon.  He proudly graduated from Central High School in Sioux City and then went on to accomplish both his Bachelor of Science and MBA from the University of South Dakota.

One night while line dancing at the Gatlin Brothers Music City Restaurant at the Mall of America, a young lady caught his eye and the fact that he made Pattie smile was a sign that they were meant to be together! A little rough around the edges, Steve had a huge heart.  A little-known secret was that he enjoyed watching a good Hallmark movie with Pattie!  He was unapologetically himself, enjoying bantering with the best of them with a Hamms beer in his hand.   He gave of himself in both time and contributions, serving as an election judge, and anonymously donating to many charities.  He even drove into Minneapolis so that he could meet the people to whom he was donating.  He enjoyed swimming and waterskiing in his younger years and attempted again just recently.

Steve's work ethic was second to none.  He owned and operated SASCO Construction, his own general contracting business.  In retirement, he set his sights on saving a historic building and his vision and capability gave the Montgomery Brewery Building new life.  He researched and understood the history of the building and was tireless in seeing it restored to a venue that has become a treasure in the community.

His greatest passion was his family.  Nothing was complete unless he was surrounded by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  They filled his spirit and his heart. He looked forward to road trips to see family.

Steve is survived by his life partner of 31 years, Pattie Bell of Montgomery; children, Wendy Simon of Polk City, IA, Samantha Simon (Rod Decker) of Fredericksburg, VA, Stephani (Chuck) Dorsey of Bloomington, Scott Simon (Lindsay Allen) of Montgomery, Stewart (Sabrina) Simon of Cardington, OH, Sabrina Simon (Mike Carter) of Blue Springs, MO, Rick (Heidi) Bell of New Prague, Rhonda (Dustin) Campion of Shakopee; many adored grandchildren & great-grandchildren; siblings, Jon (Donna) Simon of Farmington, Julie (Tom) Murrell of Etna, WY, Sue (Mark) Schmitt of Sierra Vista, AZ; sister-in-law, Ruth Simon of Rosemount; many nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by grandson, Cody Simon; parents; brother, Andrew.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 23, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Montgomery Brewery Building with Reverend Ben Hilding officiating.  A celebration of Steve will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations are appreciated to restore the bottling department sign on the outside of the building in Steve's honor.
