For roughly 35 years, a group has been taking one day to sing carols around New Prague. On Saturday, Dec. 13, about a dozen people gathered to visit the apartment complex Bohemia Flats, Praha Village senior apartments and Mala Strana Rehabilitation Center and Assisted Living.
Among those who have gone out nearly every year are Mary Lou and Wade Fradenburgh, Diane and Rick Nerud and Marcia and Robert Sammons.
“One Christmas, Diane Nerud said we should go out caroling and I was asked to come since I play guitar,” said Wade Fradenburgh. They had 15 to 20 people from six to seven families participating that year, he said.
From there each year, the group would go out caroling around the community. “We would end it at Steve and Jean Swenson’s place with a meal,” said Wade.
Wade said the group began between 1989 and 1990 with Living Praise Alliance Church, which had been located next to what is now Mayo Clinic Health System, New Prague. Now, the group is part of Calvary Church, which meets at New Prague Middle School.
“The group has changed, but we’re all friends,” said Marcia Sammons. “We just enjoy it.”
