If the early results are a reliable sign, New Prague High School’s track teams are looking at a strong showing this spring.
Thursday, the Trojans competed at a non-conference indoor meet at Minnesota State University, Mankato. The NP boys finished ahead of Mankato East and Blue Earth Area. The New Prague girls finished second to Mankato East and ahead of BEA.
Saturday, April 4, 9 a.m., New Prague will be in Orono for another indoor meet for its girls’ and boys’ teams. Tuesday, April 7, 4 p.m., the Trojans will host their two home meets this year against Orono and Waconia at Trojan Stadium. NP girls New Prague had several strong showings at the indoor meet. In the shot put, Ellie Woodgate topped 30 feet and Madelyn Hamre was right behind her at 26-feet-9. Pole vaulter Karly Ophus cleared 7 feet in her first meet. In the high jump, Sienna Larson cleared 4-feet-4. In the triple jump, Khloe Slocum finished at 30-feet-5. Eloise Timmermans finished just shy of 29 feet. In the long jump, Claire Sundstrom topped 17-feet-1 while Ellie Heyda finished at 14-feet-3. NP was solid in the hurdles. In the 60-meter hurdles, Aspen Schieffer posted the team’s top finish at 10.8 seconds. Eloise Timmermans was right behind her at 11.2 seconds. Brynn Peterson and Alice Trcka both finished in 11.7 seconds. The 60-meter dash saw Claire Meyer and Kloe Slocum both finish in 8.5 seconds, the team’s fastest times in the event. Ali Miller and Brooklyn Mahowald finished in 8.7 seconds each. Addison Schwartz was right behind her at 8.9 seconds. New Prague’s 4-by-200-meter relay team (Timmermans, Aryanna Dahl, Brynn Peterson and Schieffer) finished in 2:02.1. In the 200-meter dash, Claire Sundstrom (28.1 seconds), Claire Meyer (28.9 seconds), Frankee Spicer (28.9 seconds) and Jillian Laine (29.8 seconds) posted the team’s best times. Audrey Wagner posted the team’s fastest time in the 400-meter dash, 67.3 seconds.
In the 800-meter run, Maya Kilian posted NP’s fastest time, 2:36.3.
