Carmen Brandel, 62

Carmen Brandel, age 62, of Hayward, WI passed away on Friday, November 16, 2018 at her home.

Carmen Marie was born September 19, 1956 in Shell Lake, WI the daughter of Milton and Alice (Ross) Dieckman.   She was raised in Hayward, WI and graduated from Hayward High School in 1974.  Carmen continued her education at the Wisconsin Institute of Technical College in Rice Lake where she received an associate’s degree in civil design.  Shortly after receiving her degree, Carmen moved out to Arizona and took a job as a civil designer.  She lived in Tempe for a short time before moving to Phoenix.  On May 26, 1984 Carmen was joined in marriage to Michael Brandel at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Hayward.  Carmen and Michael lived in Phoenix, AZ from 1984 until 1989 where she did the civil design work for the Roy Rogers – Dale Evans Air Park in Chandler, AZ.  They moved to Jordan, MN and Carmen continued her career in civil design for Bonestroo, Rosene, Anderlik and Associates in Minnesota until her retirement in 2005.  She also was a sales person for Avon, Tastefully Simple and Candle Lite and volunteered as a Girl Scout leader.  In 2017, Carmen and Michael moved to Hayward, WI.  Carmen enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, going to garage sales, collecting coral, needle point, crocheting, and being with her nieces and nephews.

Carmen in survived by her husband of 34 years, Michael; one brother, Peter (Amy) Dieckman of Hayward; one sister, Susan (Darrel) Bugel of Woodbury, MN; two nephews, Joe and Josh; and three nieces, Emma, Allison and Madison.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Michael.

A service celebrating Carmen’s life will be held at noon on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at the Hayward Funeral Home.  There will be a time of gathering with family and friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday, December 8. 

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Hayward Area Memorial Hospital.

Carmen’s family would like to thank the local EMT’s and Paramedics who responded and did everything they could the night she passed.
