Carol Joan Trewartha, 89

Carol Joan Trewartha, age 89, saw her Savior and went home to heaven on Dec. 18, 2024, at Praha Village in New Prague, MN. She was born at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Chippewa Falls, WI, to Alma and Alfred Otto. She was baptized and confirmed at Central Lutheran Church. She attended Island Street School (K-4th grade), Chestnut School (5th-6th), Chippewa Jr. High (7th-9th), Chippewa Falls Sr. High (10th-12th). She was Prom Queen in her Junior Year and graduated in 1953. She played basketball and volleyball in 6AA Girls Athletics Association. She completed her three-year Registered Nurse degree (RN), at Eau Claire Luther Hospital and Eau Claire State.
She met the love of her life, Donald, her husband of 44 years, on New Years Eve, December 31, 1954. They were married on June 29, 1957, at Central Lutheran Church in Chippewa Falls. They moved to Menomonie, and in 1962, built a home in Bloomington, MN, to be near Don’s work at Control Data. Both Carol and Don were long-time active members of Christ the King Lutheran Church, Bloomington, MN, where she sang in the choir and served in numerous church ministries. Carol was an only child, but she loved children, both in pediatric nursing, teaching piano lessons, and especially her own children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Carol was a supreme lover of dogs and spent her years after retirement volunteering at Last Hope Animal Shelter. She worked at Hennepin County Medical Center for 13 years, as a Pharmacy Technician. Throughout her lifetime she owned and adopted several dogs. She loved to bowl, knit, travel, take pictures, the color red, and attending her grandkids’ activities, sports, and ball games. She loved to travel, and the family visited many states with their travel trailer - packed to the gills with kids and dogs. They took trips out East, and out West, and to Canada. Once they sold the trailer, they continued their travels, including trips to Colorado, Alaska, Hawaii, and the North Shore, where they loved to stay at Bluefin Bay. Many a weekend, the family took car rides after church (which always included a stop at an ice cream shop).
In 2019, after suffering two hip surgeries, Carol moved to Praha Village in New Prague, where she spent the rest of her life.
She was the beloved mother of Julie (Rick) Saffrin, of Chaska, MN, Mark (Jenny) of Bloomington, MN, and Steve (Debbie) Trewartha of New Prague, MN. She loved her 10 grandchildren: Sam (Hallie) Saffrin, Joe (Valeria) Saffrin, Jake (Jenny) Saffrin, Mike (Kate) Trewartha, Dan (Ashlea) Trewartha, Emma (Ted) Zwieg, Sam (Rachel) Lee, Katie (Brent) Weiers, Ben (Michelle) Trewartha, Kenzie (Kevin) Dudley, and many great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Don, and parents, Alfred and Alma Otto.
Celebration of Life Service will be held Thursday, December 26, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at FaithPoint Lutheran Church with her son, Reverend Dr. Steve Trewartha officiating. Visitation will take place at church 1 ½ hours prior to service, starting at 9:30 a.m. Lunch will follow in the church hall.
