Celebrating the new year early

More than 150 people, mostly children with their families, celebrated the new year early with a ball drop at noon during the second annual Noon Year’s Eve Ball Drop Sunday, Dec. 31, at Eagle View Elementary School in Elko New Market.
“It seemed like a bigger crowd than last year,” said Pastor Gordon Deuel of Crossroads Church, which hosted the event. “We had a good crew of volunteers and something fur for all ages.”
The no-cost event offered games and treats starting at 10:30 a.m. and ending with the ball drop of small beach balls that many children tossed and kicked around after the balls were dropped.
