Chili Feed provides Family Fun

Area residents spiced up their evening on Saturday, Jan. 12, at the Cowboy Chili Feed and Cook Off held in St. Wenceslaus Church’s Parish Activity Center in New Prague. HIS Haven Ranch sponsored the evening that included a chili meal, a contest for best chili recipe, a silent auction, square dancing and a live auction for desserts.

“We did really well,” said Laurie Baer of HIS Haven Ranch, a free local youth mentoring non-profit organization. “The crowd that was there had a good time.”

“I think it’s great,” said Susan Schatz of Le Center, noting there was a lot of variety in the dessert auction. “We can support something that is family friendly and is a great organization and program.”

Richard and Debra Kunst of Mankato also liked the program. The couple’s grandson Kyle has benefited from his three years at HIS Haven Ranch. They explained that Kyle rides horses and connects with them. They said he has grown a lot and the program has helped him in overcoming some of his fears.

Girl Scouts from Troop 20143 helped during the evening. A number of them....
