Conference’s top teams defeat Trojans

The New Prague girls basketball team played two of the top teams in the Metro West Conference last week and were defeated by both.

Chanhassen downed the Trojans, 81-47, Tuesday, Jan. 18. Two days later, Chaska, one of the top teams in Class AAAA, downed the Trojans, 66-38.

“We continue to show glimpses of the potential of this group of girls. Defensively, we had moments in which all five girls played as one with solid rotation and rebounding,” head coach Eric Specht said about the game with Chanhassen. “Offensively, we had moments which we played off of each other, moving the ball well, creating scoring opportunities.”

Chanhassen led 35-28 at halftime, but exploded for 46 second half points.

The offense was led by Hanna Wedeking with 12 points, which included 8-of-11 from the free throw line. Payton Morris and Anika Hatlevig each added nine points. Wedeking and Katherine Boulanger led the team with seven rebounds.
