Crafting a better day with Habitat for Humanity
New Prague’s branch of Habitat for Humanity held a fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 16, at Giesenbrau Bier Co. with 200 tickets sold for the event held 2-7 p.m. There was music, food, an assortment of beers, a silent auction, a meat raffle and commemorative mugs and wine cups.
Helping with the silent auction was Pat Sullivan of New Prague. He noted among the more than 50 auction items were a wood fire dinner for 10 people, a chance to stay at Breezy Point resort, plus many other items. “The businesses that donated went above and beyond,” said Sullivan, adding there were also donations from Fishtale Bar & Grill, New Prague Auto, O’Reilly Auto Parts and Ace Hardware.
Bill Belkengren of New Prague also helped as he crafted more than 300 clay dish ware as there were 150 mugs and 275 wine cups available. People who bought tickets could choose from a mug or two wine cups. He explained that it took him about a month to make them all by hand.
