Dorothy Rita Lubbers, 94

Dorothy Rita Lubbers, age 94, of Shakopee, MN, died peacefully on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Shakopee.
The family will receive friends Friday, July 19, 2024, from 9:30-11:00 a.m., followed by a Memorial service at 11 a.m. All to be held at SJA-Church of Saint Mary, 535 Lewis St. S, Shakopee, MN. Interment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery at a later date.
Dorothy was born February 25, 1930, in Helena Township, Scott County, to Frank H. and Anna R. (Topic) Bastyr. She attended St. Benedict Parochial School and enjoyed walking to school with all of her siblings.
While attending a dance at the New Prague Park Ballroom, Dorothy met Leonard Lubbers. They wed on September 1, 1951, at St. Wenceslaus Church in New Prague. Together, Dorothy and Leonard built a beautiful life in Shakopee, where they raised their two children.
She enjoyed her work as a waitress at Clems Diner in Shakopee, Eddie Websters, the Minnesota Valley Country Club, and others. She enjoyed working with son, Daniel, as a banquet server as well.
Dorothy was a lifelong member of the Church of Saint Mary in Shakopee. She enjoyed watching the MN Twins and Timberwolves, spending many of her later years enjoying evenings of sports. As a devoted mother and grandmother, she cherished every moment with her family and was the “go-to” sounding board for her grandchildren, always offering a compassionate ear.
A prodigious baker and cook, Dorothy excelled in making traditional Czech kolackys and dumplings, delicious pies, and Christmas cookies.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Leonard; parents, Frank and Anna Bastyr; siblings, Frank Bastyr, Elsie Uhlir, Clara Bastyr, Marianne Mach, Lillian Bastyr, Adeline Tryzinsky, George Bastyr and Eugene Bastyr.
Survivors include her son, Daniel of Savage; daughter, Jean Forbes and son-in-law, David of Punta Gorda, FL; grandchildren, Amy (Shannon) of Saint Paul, David II of Shakopee, Samuel (Lindsey) of Shakopee, and Benjamin of Shakopee; great-grandson Theodore Ray Forbes; siblings, Genevieve (Alvin) Novotny, Leonard (Janice) Bastyr and Raymond Bastyr; plus many nieces and nephews.
