Edith Ousky, 94

Edith Ousky, age 94, of New Prague, died peacefully in the presence of her loving family on Sunday, August 12, 2018, at Mala Strana Rehabilitation Center.  Edith was born on February 26, 1924 in Tyler, MN to Nels and Marie (Johansen) Sorensen.  She graduated from Tyler High School and married Frank R. Ousky on December 29,1948 in Mankato, MN.  The couple spent a short time on the farm and then settled in Milroy, MN, where they owned and operated Ousky Hardware Store and raised their family of five children.  Edith was a woman of abundant energy and many interests.  She belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary, the Ladies Guild at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, the church choir, and the M & M’s, a singing group that performed at nursing homes.  She was unlimited in her ability to socialize, belonging to numerous other groups as well, such as sewing groups, card clubs, and dinner clubs.  Edith enjoyed counted cross-stitch and that hobby led to “Thoughts in Threads”, her created stitchery, which she took to many craft shows.  She also collected depression  glass.  Edith always said that family, faith, and laughter is what gets one through life and her life exemplified all three values.  She cherished Danish traditions, particularly Christmas, which maintained the same traditions of food and celebration from year one through the last Christmas spent.  Family was paramount in everything she did and her cooking and baking were legendary.  When she moved to Philipp Square in New Prague in October of 2002, she entered into her final phase of living with the same gusto.  She organized card groups, coffees, and started the Philipp community newsletter; Edith was the go-to person for any social gathering there.  Throughout her life but especially in her later years, she loved to write memories and document the family special events.
