Edward F. “Eddie” Wieskus, 92

Edward F. “Eddie” Wieskus, age 92, of New Prague, formerly of Fulda, died peacefully with his family at his side, on Thursday, December 16, 2021, at his home at Praha Village.  Edward was born on November 26, 1929 in Jackson, MN to Frank and Julia (Macek) Wieskus.  He graduated from Jackson High School in 1947 and entered the Army National Guard until 1951 and was a proud member of the American Legion.  He met the woman who would become his cherished partner at a dance and married Jeanette Odenbrett on June 7,  1958 at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church in Fulda.  Perhaps it was that dance that led to Eddy’s love of polka music and his love of KCHK when the couple moved to New Prague!  Eddy started out working with his father doing custom corn-shelling and trucking.  In 1960 he became the owner/operator of a school bus company in Fulda, remaining for 44 years, and driving bus until age 75.  He also served as the sexton for St. Gabriel Cemetery for 25 years.

Eddie was a man with a soft voice, a gentle nature, and mostly, a kind heart.  He loved people and the children he served in his bussing business.  He could visit with anyone and could talk your ear off.  But his highest priority was his family.  He was devoted to his loving wife and his children.  30 years of family vacations “Up North” saw a minimum of 40 people gathering every year.  He taught the kids and grandkids to water ski with infinite patience and loved nothing more than fishing, especially on the Missouri River.  He was an accomplished bowler and was noted for his legendary sweet tooth, always displaying a prominent bowl of candy for anyone visiting, to the delight of his grandchildren.

Eddie is survived by his wife, Jeanette, of New Prague; children, Sue (Mark) Sandhurst of Fulda, Ann (Mat) Holinka of Lakeville, Bruce (Deanna) Wieskus of Jasper, MN, Marty (Lisa) Wieskus of Slayton, Patti (Kevin) Becker of Jordan, Jennifer (Ryan) Wenzel of Montgomery, Chad (Kyle) Wieskus of New Prague, Brad (Sarah) Wieskus of Prior Lake, Matt (Nicole) Wieskus of Prior Lake; 20 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy (Nate) Dirks; sons, Tom and Dan Wieskus; brother and sister-in-law, Leonard (Margaret) Wieskus.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at 10:30 AM at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church in Fulda, MN with Father Paul Heiting officiating.  Visitation will occur at church 1 hour prior to Mass from 9:30 – 10:30.  Burial will take place at Saint Gabriel’s Cemetery in Fulda. Military honors will be conducted by the Fulda American Legion and VFW Honor Guard.
