ENM dedicates new solar arrays
The first of two solar energy projects in Elko New Market was dedicated the evening of Thursday, April 25. The city has been working with Ideal Energies LLC of Minneapolis on the projects. The first to be completed was the installation of 86 solar panels on the roof of the city’s Public Works building. Taking part in the ceremony were Elko New Market Council member Kate Timmerman, Mayor Joe Julius, Assistant City Administrator Mark Nagel and Braden Solum of Ideal Energies LLC. Also present were City Administrator Tom Terry, Police Chief Brady Juell and Public Works Superintendent Corey Schweich.
“We kind of found each other,” said Solum about the project. He explained he was checking with cities about projects when an intern from Elko New Market reached out to him about the project.
While the solar arrays on the Public Works building have been live since December 2018, the next project will be starting this summer. That will be a ground-mounted array next to the Waste Water Treatment Plant, which will be built over the next six to eight months.
