Girls have strong showing at Hutch

The New Prague Trojan girls cross country team placed fourth out of 12 teams at the Hutchinson Invitational meet, held Thursday, Sept. 13, at Lake Marion Park in Hutchinson. Willmar won the meet with 44 points, followed by Marshall (71), Waseca (77) and New Prague (126). Prior Lake was fifth at 134.

Sydney Siegle was the top Trojans in the meet. The senior ran the 5K course in 21 minutes, 5 seconds, good for 13th place. Two teammates were close behind. Norah Rosemeier finished 16th in 1:11 and Iris McCarthy was 18th in 21:24. Also scoring for the Trojans were Abbey Carlson (35th, 22:06) and Morgan Brandt (44th, 22:28). Kate Chromy finished 45th in 22:29 and Sydney Stenger was 59th in 23:27.

In the JV meet, top Trojan was Libby Midtvedt in 22:51.

"It was another hot and humid race in Hutchinson," Coach Shawn Brandt said. "Although the conditions were not ideal, the girls focused on the only thing they could control... their attitudes. That positive ‘self-talk’ goes a long way when the conditions make the race even more challenging."

Brandt said in the JV race, the girls continued working on running negative splits in the second half of the race. "That’s not an easy task, especially in this weather." Libby (Midtvedt) accomplished the challenge. In addition, she was able to set a new PR by 19 seconds.
