Girls track wins 2 meets

The New Prague Trojan girls track and field team claimed a pair of first place finishes in two meets last week. The Trojans won a three-team meet at Holy Family Catholic, then defeated Waconia in a dual meet at New Prague.

The Trojans were scheduled to compete in a fourteam meet at Delano Tuesday, May 1, and then return to Orono for the Orono Invitational on Thursday, May 3.

On Tuesday, May 8, New Prague will travel to Rochester Mayo for the Section 1AAA True Team meet. Field events start at 1:30 p.m. and track events start at 2:45 p.m. Other teams competing are Austin, Farmington, Lakeville North, Lakeville South, Northfield, Owatonna and the three Rochester schools.

Holy Family meet New Prague traveled to Holy Family Catholic High School in Victoria for a three-team Wright County Conference meet with Waconia and Holy Family. The Trojans placed first in the meet, with a number of seniors leading the way.

Izzy Blanchard took second in the pole vault, Courtney Dragone placed sixth in the long jump.

In the throws, three seniors competed, with Blanchard placing in the shot put with a personal record, to earn fifth. Tina Rhoten hd a personal best, as did Maggie O’Neill, who placed in the event. O’Neill also placed in the discus.

Sylvie Tikalsky placed in the 800 and also ran a solid split in the 4x800 relay.

Dragone just missed placing but had a season best in the 100 meters. Also competing in the 100 were senior foreign exchange student Kristina Seiberlich, Sonia Thomas and Grace Montgomery.
