Harold R. Shimota, 90

In loving memory of Harold R. Shimota, age 90, who passed away Sunday, May 18, 2025, at his home at Praha Village Assisted Living in New Prague, MN. He was surrounded by his family by his side and the memory of his wife, Angie, of 68 years, who passed this last September.  

Born June 7, 1934, to Charles and Anna B (Trenda) in Cedar Lake Township, Harold met and married his high school sweetheart Angie (Schoenbauer), raising nine children, actively supported the community, and excelling at his carpentry skills.  

Harold learned his skills through trade school education and found his career as commercial construction carpenter then excelled into a polished finishing carpenter paying attention to the finest details and highest quality.  

He turned words into action through his commitments to his wife, family, church, and community, including 60+ years as a member of the Knights of Columbus.  He always went the extra mile to get the job done, not only finishing a job, but giving his all for superior results. 

Harold not only helped raise his children, but participated in church activities, grew gardens, and sang & danced at Czech events. He also enjoyed playing tuba with his brother’s concertina band, showing his Czech pride in talking, singing, and playing music from his heritage. He also loved playing cards and telling jokes bringing a smile to all.

Praha Village residents will remember Harold for his jokes and his involvement in the Putzers (fixers club) to bring a light-hearted lift to the day.  

 Harold is survived by his children, Harry (Connie) Shimota of Tennessee, Connie Pomranke of Mankato, Jim (Marge) Shimota of Prior Lake, Ken (Jill) Shimota of Hastings, Kathy (Steve) Korum of New Prague, Tom (Michelle) Shimota of Rosemount, Ann (Jim) Walstrom of Minnetonka, Julie (Scott) Lindner of Woodbury; 26 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; sister, Ann (Stan) Tuma of New Prague; brother, Arnie (Vicky) Shimota of New Prague; sister-in-law, Amanda Shimota of New Prague.  He is preceded in death by his wife Angie on September 16, 2024; son, Robert; granddaughter, Amy Shimota; brothers, Ed Sr., Chuck, George “Hap”.

 Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with Father Michael Miller officiating.  Visitation will take place at Bruzek Funeral Home Tuesday, May 27, from 4-7 p.m. and Wednesday morning from 7:30-9:30.  Lunch will follow Mass at the KC Hall.
