Incumbents, one newcomer among early filers for city, school district elections

One incumbent and one potential newcomer are among the early contestants for the elections for New Prague City Council and the New Prague Area School District.

Incumbent Mayor Duane Jirik is the only person to file for election to the New Prague City Council. It is for a two-year term. The seats currently held by councilors Shawn Ryan and Bruce Wolf are also up for election for four-year terms.

School district
In the race for New Prague Area School District Board of Directors, directors Matt Goldade of rural New Prague, Dennis Havlicek of Webster and Jean Schmidt of Elko have all filed for four-year terms. Carrie Cuff of Elko New Market also filed for election to the school board.

Four school board seats held by directors Goldade, Havlicek, Schmidt and Kim Holden are up for election to four-year terms.

The filing period to run for city council or school board runs through Aug. 13, 5 p.m., according to the Minnesota Secretary of State’s Office. Election Day is Nov. 5.
