Ivy Joyce Braith, 13 months

Ivy Joyce Braith, age 13 months, of Northfield, died peacefully in the arms of her  mommy and daddy on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at Minneapolis Children’s Hospital.  Ivy was born on July 6, 2020 in Minneapolis to Matthew and Sarah (Salaba) Braith.   In her short life, Ivy left the footprint of a giant.  In her 13 months, only 2 were spent at home, the rest at Children’s Hospital.  She impacted and stole the hearts of everyone fortunate enough to care for her.  She defied the odds many times in expected outcomes and prognoses, providing the opportunity for her doctors to learn from her.  Despite her many challenges, she persevered and did the impossible every single day, earning the moniker of the Little Engine that Could!  It is said, that ivy grows where other plants can’t and that was Ivy; the fire in her soul did not match her earthly broken body and there were many times when things would look very grim and yet Ivy pulled through.  Her spirit, her blonde curls, her gentle smile were the epitome of the angel that she was and hid the ravages that her body possessed.  She brightened the room and the lives of those that she touched.  Her family exceeded the bounds of her biological family and became all who cared for and loved her.

Ivy is survived by her mother, Sarah Braith of Northfield; father, Matt Braith of Northfield; sister, Quinn; brother, Cliff; grandparents, Jeff & Kathy Salaba of Lonsdale, Ron & Dodie Braith of Montgomery, Lori & Dorian Cornelius of Medford; uncles, Stevie Salaba, Nick (Beth) Braith, Michael Braith; great-grandparents, Tom & Joyce Draper of Warsaw, Clarence & Delores Salaba of Lonsdale, Norm Hallet of Montgomery, Carol Braith of St. Patrick.  She is preceded in death by her great-grandmother, Catherine Hallet; great-grandfather, Al Braith.

Mass of the Angels will be held Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Veseli with Father John Lapensky officiating.  Visitation will take place Tuesday morning from 9 – 10:30 at Bruzek Funeral Home.  Burial will follow Mass at St. John’s Cemetery in Veseli and lunch will follow at the Lonsdale Legion Club.
