Joyce Kathleen (Pladson) Fadden, 85
Joyce Kathleen (Pladson) Fadden, age 85, of New Prague died Saturday, July 28, 2018 at the Lutheran Home in Belle Plaine. Joyce was born at her grandparents’ home in Lowry, MN on July 22, 1933 to Oscar A. and Hazel M. (Hagstrom) Pladson. Joyce grew up in Brandon, MN where her dad and uncle, Leo Smedstad, owned and operated the Brandon Meat Market. She was baptized, confirmed, and married at Grace Lutheran Church in Brandon.
After graduating from Brandon High School, Joyce attended nursing school in Fargo, ND, graduating in 1954.
Joyce worked as an RN in Alexandria; Glendora, CA; Honolulu; Methodist Hospital, St. Louis Park; The Lutheran Home, Belle Plaine; Ebenezer Ridges, Burnsville; and Queen of Peace Hospital in New Prague.
On July 21, 1962 Joyce married Thomas Michael Fadden. They lived in Bloomington, MN until 1976 when they moved to rural New Prague. While Joyce enjoyed many spectator sports, she particularly enjoyed participating in softball and bowling. Above all she was very proud of her grandchildren, loved to spend time with them, and visit about their activities.
Joyce is survived by her children Mary & Bill Gaulke of New Prague - their children Matthew, Wyatt, and David; Thomas M. Jr. & Wendy Fadden of New Prague - their children Thomas M. III (wife Hayley) and Michael; and Jane & Oliver Mueller of Paderborn, Germany - their children Annika and Katelyn; brother Paul (Barb) Pladson of South Haven, MN. She is preceded in death by her husband Thomas Sr., on February 25, 1980.
The funeral is Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Friedens Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastor Del Begalka officiating. Visitation will take place at church two hours prior to service. Burial will be at Friedens Lutheran Cemetery in Lanesburgh with lunch following in the church hall.
