Marian Irene Peroutka (Tikalsky), 95

Marian Irene Peroutka (Tikalsky), age 95 of New Prague, passed away peacefully in Edina, Minnesota on July 2, 2022.

Marian was born on the home farm just west of Union Hill (Belle Plaine), MN to Mary Tikalsky (Trcka) and William Tikalsky on May 17, 1927. Growing up with 3 siblings, Marian frequently reminisced about the challenges of life on the farm during the depression years. Marian lived a life of hard work and dedication, influenced by her upbringing and experiences.

Marian attended District 52, a one room schoolhouse, for 8 years. She then attended New Prague High School where Marian met her high school sweetheart, Francis Peroutka. Marian and Francis were married on October 23, 1948, at St. Wenceslaus Church, in New Prague. They made their home on the 4th generation family farm, where they raised not only a family but cattle, hogs, chickens, ducks, and geese. They also forged a path in organic farming for 20 years and supported caring for the earth. Marian and Francis were proud of their Czech heritage and would enjoy attending polka dances, listening to KCHK radio station and reading The New Prague Times. They resided on the farm together for 61 years until Francis passed away on November 2, 2009. Marian lived independently on the family farm up to her age of 95.

Marian delighted in being a farm wife. She enjoyed all her farm animals, but her chickens and barn cats were her favorites. She was regularly active with the farm work outside and chores. Marian was also employed at Mala Strana Nursing Home for 35 years before retiring at the age of 81.

She was a great cook and loved to bake. Marian enjoyed sharing her treats with her family and friends. The treats included her family’s favorites of dumplings, kolaches, mocha cakes and her famous banana cake. Every Christmas she shared the tradition of baking and decorating sugar cookies with her family and friends. She used her baking skills to donate to many local fundraisers.

Marian had a green thumb and could make almost anything grow. She utilized these skills as an avid vegetable and flower gardener. She also liked to pick strawberries at local strawberry patches. Euchre was the card game for Marian. She could outplay anyone, often playing into the early hours of the morning. Her favorite television program was Wheel of Fortune, where it was common for her to solve the puzzle before the actual contestants.

Marian shared many stories over the years. Walking in the Armistice Day blizzard to a neighbor’s home from the schoolhouse and having a barn dance on her parent’s farm during the severe drought of the 1930’s were some of her special memories. She loved to volunteer for the American Cancer Society and the New Prague Area Schools. Marian was fond of her trips traveling to Arizona to visit family and friends where she had fun touring ranches, seeing cotton fields and going to farmers markets of the southwest. Marian was proud of her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren brought her much joy.

Marian was preceeded in death by her beloved husband Francis Peroutka, parents Mary and William Tikalsky, sisters Eleanor Adamek (Alvin), Evelyn Kocina (Joe), and Arvilla Sirek (Jim), and infant grandson Joshua Norton.

Marian is survived by daughters Marjean (Peroutka) Beranek (Bill) of New Prague and Jane (Peroutka) Norton (Chuck) of Chaska, MN. Grandchildren Evan Beranek (Kayla) of Oakdale, MN; Anthony Beranek of Prior Lake, MN; Cassandra (Norton) Woodland (Gavin) of Chaska, MN. Great-grandchildren Barrett, Beckham, and Briggs Beranek and Chloe Woodland. Nieces and Nephews, Tom Adamek, Shirley Gassman, Bill Sirek, Mary Rehor, and Roger Sirek.

Visitation will be from 1 pm until the time of service. Private burial will be held at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in New Prague.
