Oakes named head baseball coach at NPHS

Tanner Oakes has accepted the Head Baseball Coach position at New Prague High School pending approval by the school board.

Oakes comes from a family of baseball coaches. His father, the late Todd Oakes, played and coached in the San Francisco Giants organization and was a longtime pitching coach for the University of Minnesota. His brothers, Tyler and TJ, coach at the collegiate level as well.

A native of Jordan, he graduated from Jordan High School in 2011. He attended Augsburg University while studying special education and was a member of the Auggie baseball team for four years.

Oakes joined the Trojan baseball staff as an assistant coach during the 2016 season where he has continued to serve in that role the last three seasons. Oakes also served as the B squad boys basketball coach during the 2017-18 season. He will be beginning his third year as a Special Education teacher at New Prague Middle School and is currently working on a Master’s Degree from Minnesota State Moorhead University. He and his fiancee, Hannah Klegstad, who also works as a special education teacher in the district, live in New Prague.

Oakes succeeds Sean DuBe’, who just completed his second season as Trojan head coach. DuBe’ has accepted a teaching job in the Northfield district. He had a 27-18 record in two seasons
