Richard J. “Dick” Eischens, 88

Richard J. “Dick” Eischens, age 88, of New Prague, died peacefully in the presence of his family on Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at Amara Hospice in Edinberg, Texas.  Dick was born on September 27, 1931 in New Prague to John and Mary (Svoboda) Eischens.  He attended St. Benedict Parochial School, graduated from New Prague High School, and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry from the University of St. Thomas.  He worked for Northern States Power as the manager of the testing lab for 34 years.  He married the love of his life, Annette G. “Nan” Hess on February 19, 1955 at Incarnation Church in Minneapolis, MN.  The couple raised their 3 children on their farm near St. Benedict and farming was always a part of Dick’s life and more than just a hobby.  Many will remember his pumpkin wagon at the side of the road in the fall and the popcorn that he grew, harvested, and sold to grateful citizens.  Dick was active in the community throughout his life, most notably with Rotary, for which he won an attendance award and as a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus.  During his work years, he was active with the Minnesota Academy of Science and enjoyed camping with his children at events they sponsored in the fall of the year.  His family always took top priority.  He was a season ticket holder to the Minnesota Twins and enjoyed games with his children and grandchildren.  He cultivated cherished memories on family camping trips and with dear friends, the Nesleys, at their cabins in Wisconsin.

For 38 years, Nan and Dick wintered in Texas, where they became as socially involved as they were in Minnesota.  They enjoyed bluegrass music and Dick was an active member of SEMBA (Southeastern Minnesota Bluegrass Association).  He was also the president of the Minnesota/Wisconsin Winter Texans Association.  He was an avid card player, especially sheephead and cribbage.  In his later years, Dick enjoyed regular meetings with his buddies to play cards and get together at various local coffee shops.  Always ready with a smile and a story, Dick’s kindness and congeniality will be missed by so many.

Dick is survived by his children, Anne Marie Bisek of Fond du Lac, WI, John Eischens of Houston, TX, Michael (Shari) Eischens of New Prague; grandchildren, Rebecca & Kristin Eischens of Houston, TX, Christine Bisek (Brent Smith) of Pierre, SD, Steven Bisek of Fond du Lac, WI, Betsy (Jim) Ward of Durand, WI, Erica (Luke) Landry of Apple Valley, MN Matt Eischens of Granada, Spain, Maria, Vlad, Max, Julia, and Dan Eischens all of New Prague; great-grandchildren, Luke, Zane, Grace, William, & Bennett; sisters, Betty Leenay of Minneapolis and Delores Wagner of Jordan.  He is preceded in death by his wife, Nan on September 30, 2013; parents; brothers, Michael, Alfred, and John; sisters, Marie, Adeline, and Cecelia Eischens, Alice Jurichko, Frances Tamimie, Dorothy Wagner.

Due to Coronavirus guidelines, the visitation and funeral Mass have been cancelled.  At this time, no services will be scheduled for a later date.  bruzekfuneralhome.com
