Roman W. Kalina, 89
Roman W. Kalina, age 89 of Lonsdale, died peacefully on Thursday April 12, 2018 at Mala Strana Rehabilitation Center surrounded by family. Roman was born November 9, 1928 on a farm in Wheatland Township to Emanuel and Mary (Skluzacek) Kalina. He attended Immaculate Conception School in Lonsdale, Farm School in the Twin Cities and after serving two years in the army he went to GI School.
On July 7, 1951 he married Donna Petersen at Immaculate Conception Church in Lonsdale. After marriage they moved to their farm east of Lonsdale. Along with farming, Roman owned and operated Roman’s small engines for 20 years. Roman also worked for Rice County and did farm tiling. Roman had many interests, antique tractors, playing the drums and concertina, gardening and was a man of many skills. He also loved spending time with his family.
Roman is survived by his wife of 66 years, Donna of Lonsdale, children Dale (Nancy) Kalina of Lonsdale, Paul (Colleen) Kalina of Lonsdale, Linda (Bob) Bisek of Montgomery. Grandchildren Adam (Jessica) Kalina, Darin Kalina, Jackie (John) Gramling, Dan (Emily) Kalina, Jonathan Kalina, Bridget (Ryan) Powell, Brian (Mandy) Bisek, Breanna Bisek (Dan Sletten) and 11 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Francis and Richard, one sister Maxine Shambour and a son, Marvin Kalina and a Baby girl Kalina, both died in infancy.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church of Lonsdale with Father Nick VanDenBroeke officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday April 16, 2018 from 4-8 p.m. at the White Funeral Home in Lonsdale, and one hour prior to burial service at the Immaculate Conception Church with funeral mass to immediately follow on Tuesday April 17.
