Siegle ends career at state CC meet

New Prague senior Sydney Siegle concluded her six-year high school cross country career by competing at the Minnesota Class AA Girls Cross Country Championships Saturday, Nov. 3, at St. Olaf College in Northfield.

“Sydney has steadily improved her times throughout her six-year career,” said Coach Shawn Brandt. “This year was no different. She qualified for the State Meet by dropping 38 seconds off her previous PR. The State course at St. Olaf is a challenging route stacked with the best runners in Minnesota.”

Siegle ran the 5,000-meter course in 20 minutes, 7 seconds. She placed 131st of 175 runners in the meet.

Defending champion Emily Covert of Minneapolis Washburn took the early lead, set a fast pace, and finished with a new course record of 17:03... 27 seconds faster than her previous State Meet record. The pace set the tone for the rest of the field and pulled everyone into a fast first mile, Brandt said.

Siegle was slightly ahead of her goal time at the 1-mile mark, crossing at 6:06. The fast pace continued in the middle portion of the race where she clocked a time of.....
