Trojan girls end busy stretch with 2 losses

The New Prague Trojan girls basketball team concluded a stretch of six games in 11 days last week, defeating Bloomington Jefferson and then losing to Section 1AAAA foes Lakeville South and Farmington.

The Trojans (3-7) travel to Moorhead this week for a holiday tournament. They play Osseo on Friday, Dec. 28, then will take on either Moorhead or Red Lake on Saturday, Dec. 29. They return to action Thursday, Jan. 3, with their Wright County Conference opener at Hutchinson.

Trojans 52, Jaguars 32 New Prague had a good night on both sides of the ball, building a strong halftime lead and adding to it in the second half in taking a 52-32 win over Bloomington Jefferson Tuesday, Dec. 18.

"Offensively, we took care of the ball and got great shots," Coach Luke Swedberg said. "Defensively, we did a great job of disrupting their offense."

The Trojans shot 43 percent from the field and outrebounded the Jaguars 36-22. The Trojans were led by Bethany Vasecka, who had 12 points. Amanda Giesen had 9 points, Kate Seymour and Hannah Lindell both had 7, Emily Russo 6, Sarah Berg 5 and Molly Giesen, Emma Anderson and Olivia Simon had 2 each.

The game, played in the New Prague gym, was dedicated to the late Paul Lambrecht, New Prague area resident and youth sports coach who was also the head coach at Bloomington Jefferson last season. Lambrecht died of cancer earlier this year. His family was in attendance and.....
