Trojan girls finish strong against Minnetonka, Holy Family

The New Prague Trojan girls basketball team had a pair of second-half comebacks last week to keep their winning streak alive. The Trojans defeated Minnetonka and Holy Family Catholic to up their record to 9-8, having won six straight games since the beginning of 2019.

New Prague was scheduled to face Waconia Tuesday, Jan. 22. They will host Delano on Friday, Jan. 25, then travel to Eden Prairie for a non-conference game Tuesday, Jan. 29.

Trojans 47, Skippers 45 New Prague held a 22-17 halftime lead, having led for most of the first half, but Minnetonka appeared to take command, leading by eight points with about seven minutes remaining.

The Trojans, however, kept going at the Skippers, forcing turnovers, making baskets and, in the closing seconds, converting free throws.

Kate Seymour completed the comeback with a threepointer with 1:20 left to tie the game at 40-40. A free throw by Emily Russo gave New Prague the lead and Amanda Giesen hit a pair of free throws with 36 seconds left to put the Trojans up by three at 43-40.
