West Point Glee Club honors veterans with music

Many New Prague area residents turned out on Saturday, Nov. 13, for a concert by the West Point Glee Club of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York. Held at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in New Prague, the concert was done in honor of Veterans Day.

Inspired by the church, the West Point Glee Club changed its order of songs by first singing two songs from the church’s choir loft. The first song was, appropriately, “Alleluia” by Elaine Hagenberg. The glee club then made its way to the front of the church where they then sang the national anthem. Other pieces sung by the West Point Glee Club in the first half of its concert were The Corps, In Paradisum, Boxes, and You Will Live for This by Timothy C. Takach. The piece by Takach was having its first live performance at St. Wenceslaus Church on November 13. It had been commissioned in the last year and premiered as a YouTube video on May 16, 2021. The first half of the concert closed with performances by the women’s choir, the Knighingales, and the men’s choir, the Knight Caps, which were made up by members of the glee club.
