This year’s tagline ‘It is what it is’
This last weekend I was able to meet up with some family in St. Paul, it was a central location for the five of us, for at least a walk and a chance to catch up on what had been happening over the past few days and what everybody did for Christmas. We all hoped that in 2021 that we could do more. I provided what could sum up the feeling of many for 2020 “It is what it is.”
This is a year that more than one person has called it either a mess or a dumpster fire. There are those who will likely look at 2020 with a lot of negative feelings. I think mainly because so much was put on pause or usual celebrations and get togethers had to be cancelled.
While that’s true there were still some positives for some people. Some people welcomed new members to their families, either through births or weddings. Others brought home new furry friends in the form of pet cats, dogs or rabbits. Some people were able to buy a home or do long awaited updates to their houses.
For myself this year has been a vastly different one. There’s been perhaps a little more downtime, although I’ve seen people working to provide something good. I think this has to be a record for the number of parades I’ve covered. There were ones for anniversaries, birthdays, graduations and a car show.
Others have been trying their hand at cooking new and different meals. This past weekend I made chocolate banana bread and, yes, it was delicious. I also spiced up a turkey breast with a rub of spices and olive oil. I cooked up a main course of roasted Cornish hens with sweet potatoes, carrots and onions. This weekend, if time allows, I may try cooking a calzone or two, mostly from scratch.
I’ll also celebrate the end of 2020 and the beginning of 2021. I’m not expecting the new year to be a bed of roses, but, like many, I’m hoping it will be an improvement.
From the staff at The New Prague Times and Suel Printing may you and your family have a happy, safe and blessed New Year.
