Residents of the Montgomery area gathered at the Revival on Main in Montgomery on Tuesday, Sept. 22 to hear from their local representatives at a Meet Your Candidates event put together by community member Jean Keogh.

    Many around the area noticed the out-of-place Ferris wheel on Wednesday, Sept. 2, at Next Chapter Winery between New Prague and Montgomery, especially after the lights came on at night.
    The Ferris wheel was rented by husband Jeff Nelson of the late Shonna Nelson, who passed away on Sept. 3, 2025 after a battle with cancer. It was part of “Shonna’s Yahrzeit.” A Yahrzeit, sometimes spelled jahrzeit, is a Yiddish word meaning “year time” and is a Jewish tradition that celebrates the anniversary of a loved one’s death, specifically a parent or near relative.

    Tri-City United High School’s FFA students once again showed their pride in agriculture through another “Drive Your Tractor to School Day.”
    FFA students gathered early on Thursday, April 16, on the south end of Montgomery for a light breakfast and for each other to gaze over the other’s tractor — or in the case of one individual, a road grader.

    Over 300 people showed up to show their support at the benefit for Mike Meyer held at the American Bar & Grill in Montgomery on Saturday. 
    Paulette “Polly” Bieber, coordinator of the benefit said, “It was a really great turnout. Really good support.” She said that a total of 32 businesses “from Belle Plaine to Montgomery and everywhere in-between” donated to the benefit, whether silent auction items or in-kind.
    Gary West provided music for the event, and Odenthal Meats provided the pulled pork for the sandwich dinners.

Firefighters from at least New Prague Fire Department and Montgomery Fire Department extinguished a fully-engulfed separated garage fire Thursday, Jan. 29, during the evening hours at Number One Auto north of Heidelberg in rural Lanesburgh Township in Le Sueur County. Temperatures at the time were only about five degrees above zero.
