Connie Turek, age 70, of Waterville, passed away on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 with her family at her side.  Connie has been a resident of New Transitions in Waterville for 32 years.
 Connie was born on September 19, 1952 to Joseph W. and Marcella (Smisek) Turek at Community Memorial Hospital in New Prague.  She was employed at Jobs Plus in Waseca for 26 years before retirement.

On Monday, Aug. 14, Fran Barten of New Prague was surprised by her children and grandchildren and members of the New Prague Chamber of Commerce when they asked if she would be the 2023 Parade of Farm Pride’s grand marshal.
“It took me awhile to process it,” said Barten, who was speechless for a moment. She did say yes.
The Parade of Farm Pride is one of the highlights of Dozinky, New Prague’s Czech harvest festival held Friday, Sept. 15, and Saturday, Sept. 16. The parade will be held Sept. 16, on New Prague’s Main Street.

Steven David Moravec, age 67, of New Prague passed away on July 11, 2023 at his home.  A funeral service was held on August 5, 2023 at FaithPoint Lutheran Church in New Prague with Pastor Steve Trewartha officiating.

Crews have been busy Monday, Aug. 14, removing the two gas tanks at the former Crawford’s Standard Services, at the southwest corner of the intersection of New Prague’s E Main Street and SE First Avenue.
Kevin Crawford, who ran the business for 40 years before closing it March 25, 2022, said the tanks have to be out of the ground before he can sell the property. He said the tanks have to be checked to make sure they didn’t leak and the ground has to be tested. If there is any gas pollutants in the ground new dirt will have to be brought in.

Yvonne Dorothea Embretson, age 92, of Montgomery, passed away on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at Praha Village in New Prague. Visitation will be on Friday, August 18 from 10 a.m. - 11 a.m. with funeral service following at 11 a.m. all at St. John Lutheran Church in Montgomery with Pastor Jason Pollington officiating. Interment will be held in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery.

A Kilkenny woman’s house was damaged but nobody injured when fire broke out inside the front porch Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 9.
Just after 3:30 p.m., Constance Weber noted the air-conditioner window unit inside her front porch at her house on Laurel Avenue in Kilkenny had overheated and was ablaze. Weber discovered the fire after she heard crackling coming from the air-conditioning unit. The fire had spread from the front porch and was spreading other rooms inside of the house, according to the Le Sueur County Sheriff’s Office.

Montgomery and Shakopee both fall in Thursdays games fighting for the third spot in the state amateur baseball tournament. Veseli will play Lonsdale at Lonsdale on Sunday at 2 p.m.

William (Bill) Thomas Fielder of New Prague passed away at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Shakopee on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at the age of 82.
Funeral services were held on August 14th at Boman's Funeral Home in Webster City, Iowa .

Genevieve Louise Barten Metzdorff, an energetic matriarch of seven children passed away on August 10th, 2023.
She was born on February 13th, 1935 in Union Hill, MN, to Hubert and Edna (Huss) Barten. Genevieve graduated from New Prague High School in 1953 and worked at the State Bank in New Prague and later General Mills in Minneapolis in the account department after graduating.

Crews from New Prague Public Works were busy Tuesday afternoon Aug. 8, removing a soft maple with a 4 to 5 foot diameter that fell in the alley between 310 and 312 Central Avenue N.
Advanced age of the tree is expected why it fell between 1:30-1:45 p.m. Robert Sammons, the homeowner at 310 Central Avenue said the tree caused damage to the roof of his garage. No one was injured when the tree fell.

Linda Ann Warnemunde, age 73, of New Prague, died peacefully on Saturday, August 5, 2023, at Mala Strana Health and Rehabilitation Center in New Prague, Minnesota.

Retired in Bracketteville, TX, Fort Clark Springs.
Survived by siblings Ruth, Francis and Lucille; 3 sons, Patrick, Michael and Timothy.

George loved golf, visiting  friends and listening to live country music.

The children of Horseshoe Lane SE were among at least four New Prague neighborhoods observing National Night Out Tuesday evening, Aug. 1.

Without clarity and reform by the Minnesota State High School League on issues of gender equality and transgender girls playing sports and on teams traditionally conducted by biological girls, Dan Call wants the New Prague Area School District to eventually stop supporting and being a member of the league.

Gerald Francis Kovarik, age 79, of Lonsdale, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, July 25, 2023.
He is survived by his five children: Julie Kovarik (fiancé Dennis Tikalsky) of Hackensack, Ann Kovarik of Montgomery, Crystal (Richard) Shetka of Faribault, Sarria (Mitch) Green of Hopkins and Christopher Kovarik of St. Paul; five grandchildren: Nikitta (Cole) Mason, Cody Shetka, Brandon Klonne, Oscar and Roy Green, one great-grandson, Waylon Mason; brother Richard (Connie) Kovarik.

With four big runs in the third inning, Montgomery topped Union Hill, 5-1, Sunday, July 23, avenging an early-season loss in Montgomery.
