The New Prague Trojan dance team competed twice last week, as they prepare for the Wright County Conference championships scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 19, at Hutchinson.
The Trojans competed in the WCC Jazz tournament in Delano Thursday, Jan. 10. They finished seventh of 11 teams. Mound Westonka was first and Orono second.
The JV team placed sixth of 11, with Mound first and Orono Blue taking second.
New Prague Coach Monika Goettl said her team has had a few issues, including performing at the conference meet with two missing athletes.
The New Prague Trojan gymnastics team hosted Orono for a Wright County Conference dual Thursday, Jan. 10, and defeated the visiting Spartans by a score of 137.55-124.2.
New Prague got off to a strong start, taking the top four places in vault and top five in bars. Ellie Morris scored a 9.15 on vault, with Caitlin Pint getting a 9.1, Emmalyn Dickerson 9.05 and Brooke Nerud 8.55.
On bars, Allie Eischens led the Trojans with an 8.675, with Addison Hartshorn second at 8.45, Mahri Halbmaier third at 8.4, Nerud fourth at 8.075 and Dickerson fifth at 8.05.
The No. 6-ranked New Prague Trojan wrestling team defeated Prior Lake 56-9 Friday, Jan. 11, to regain the Highway 13 Rumble Traveling Trophy. This was the 12th time the rival teams competed for the trophy and only the second time that New Prague has won it, the other coming in 2012. New Prague won 12 of the 14 matches, In other Trojan sports action Friday, the girls basketball team defeated Orono 49-27. Girls hockey tied Mound Westonka 2-2 and boys hockey lost to Mound Westonka 4-0.
The New Prague adapted floor hockey team is looking to follow up on a strong season with another state tournament appearance in 2019.
The squad finished last year with a 12-1-1 record, with their only loss coming in the first round of the state tournament. They went on to win consolation honors.
Shelly Kriha is back for another season as head coach, and she is assisted by Jeremy Kalal and Steve Kriha. Support staff Diane Johnson and Connie Jensen help with the team, along with student managers Brookelyn Skluzacek, Brandon Zeilinger and Eva Johnson.
The New Prague Trojan girls hockey team began the 2019 portion of their schedule with a convincing win over Waconia.
Nathan Enge of Elko New Market’s Boy Scout Troop 325 was recognized for earning the rank of Eagle Scout during his December 13, 2018 Eagle Scout Court of Honor at the New Prague Fire Station.
Nathan is the son of Troy and Joy Enge and is a senior at New Prague High School and is attending Postsecondary Enrollment Options through Crown College.
A snowstorm forced the New Prague Trojan wrestling team to rethink their post- Christmas plans as the team chose not to head north for the Rumble on the Red Tournament and instead head south to the Bi-State Classic in LaCrosse, WI last weekend.
The New Prague Trojan Dance team has had mixed results so far this season, finishing anywhere from first to last in its four meets. The team, coached by Monika Goettl, continues to hone its skills as it prepares for the section competition coming next month.
The season’s first meet was held Saturday, Dec. 1, at Cannon Falls. The Trojan Kick team placed first of six teams in the large-school division, while the Jazz finished second of six, behind Owatonna.
The Trojan JV Jazz and Kick squads both placed second of five teams.
The snowstorm that affected much of Minnesota has caused a schedule change for the New Prague Trojan wrestling team.
The team was scheduled to compete in the Rumble on the Red Tournament in Fargo, ND. However forecasts for that area called for as much as 13 inches of snow by Thursday morning, when the team was scheduled to leave. The tournament pushed back its starting schedule for Friday and a number of teams, including New Prague, cancelled their plans.
The New Prague Trojan girls basketball team concluded a stretch of six games in 11 days last week, defeating Bloomington Jefferson and then losing to Section 1AAAA foes Lakeville South and Farmington.
The Trojans (3-7) travel to Moorhead this week for a holiday tournament. They play Osseo on Friday, Dec. 28, then will take on either Moorhead or Red Lake on Saturday, Dec. 29. They return to action Thursday, Jan. 3, with their Wright County Conference opener at Hutchinson.
The New Prague Trojan girls hockey team upped its record to 7-4-1 as they closed out their pre-Christmas schedule last week with a pair of wins. New Prague defeated Hutchinson and Faribault.
The Trojans will compete in the Farmington Tournament beginning Wednesday, Dec. 26. Their first round game was scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Wednesday against Eastview. They will play Simley at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, and take on host Farmington at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28.
The New Prague Trojan wrestling team headed into the Christmas break with a pair of convincing wins last week. New Prague defeated Blue Earth Area and Le Sueur-Henderson in a home triangular Tuesday, Dec. 18.
The New Prague Trojan boys basketball team suffered a disappointing loss to Chanhassen Tuesday, Dec. 11, but rebounded with a come-from-behind win over Centennial Friday, Dec. 14, to go to 2-3 on the young season.
The team will travel to Farmington Friday, Dec. 21, for a game against a Section 1AAAA foe. They will compete in the East Ridge Tournament Thursday and Friday, Dec. 27, and 28. They take on Eastview at 6 p.m. Thursday and then face Rosemount at 6 p.m. Friday.
The New Prague Trojan boys hockey team won one of three games last week. They started the week with a loss at Holy Angels, then hosted two northern teams over the weekend, defeating Duluth Denfeld and losing to Hermantown.
The Trojans (4-4) were scheduled to host Hutchinson Tuesday, Dec. 18, in a Wright County Conference game. They will travel to St. Michael-Albertville for a 2 p.m. game Saturday, Dec. 22.
The New Prague Trojan girls basketball team had a rough week last week, losing two games decisively, then losing a third on a buzzer beater.
The New Prague Trojan wrestling team hosted a three-team meet last week and earned a sweep, defeating Rochester John Marshall and Tri-City United.
The Trojans improved their season record to 5-2 and will compete in their first Wright County Conference dual of the season Thursday, Dec. 13, at Hutchinson. The Trojans are at Northfield on Saturday, Dec. 15, for the Northfield Invitational, starting at 10 a.m. They host a home triangular Tuesday, Dec. 18, with Le Sueur-Henderson and Blue Earth.
